A broader Caltrans Route 36 drainage project could affect travel and environmental conditions along the highway used by Hydesville residents. The agency describes plans to rehabilitate 32 drainage locations between the U.S. 101 junction and the Trinity County line, including two fish-passage improvements.
Drainage repairs are intended to reduce erosion, help protect roadway embankments and replace systems that are deteriorating or failing. Fish-passage work seeks to remove barriers that limit movement of fish and other aquatic wildlife. The program is paired with, but distinct from, the localized Hydesville pedestrian safety improvements.
The state has not published a firm completion date on the page reviewed. Travelers should treat the work as planned until current construction notices establish what is happening at a particular site. The Caltrans project page lists staff contacts for questions.
